Target Information

Glucocorticoid Receptor (NR3C1) is a receptor for glucocorticoids that functions as both a transcription factor and a regulator of other transcription factors. It forms heteromeric cytoplasmic complexes with heat shock factors and immunophilins and translocates to the nucleus upon ligand binding.
This receptor is expressed throughout the heart, including atria, ventricles, aorta, apex, septum, and atrioventricular node, in both adult and fetal tissues.
Multiple transcript variants and isoforms exist due to alternative splicing and promoter usage. Mutations in NR3C1 cause glucocorticoid resistance. GR binds steroids such as dexamethasone with nanomolar affinity and requires chaperone protein complexes for ligand activation.
