Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, controlling cell growth and differentiation. It is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, membrane-dependent depolarization, and calcium influx. MEK1 activation occurs via phosphorylation of serine residues 218 and 222 by Raf1. It plays roles in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and proliferation induced by cytokines. Mutations in MAP2K1 can lead to cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
