Target Information
MESDC2 is a chaperone that assists in the folding of beta-propeller/EGF modules within the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) family. It modulates the Wnt pathway by chaperoning the coreceptors LRP5 and LRP6 to the plasma membrane. MESDC2 is essential for embryonic polarity, mesoderm induction, and neuromuscular junction formation by promoting cell-surface expression of LRP4. It may also regulate phagocytosis of apoptotic retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells.
