Product Specific Information
Store vial at -20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature.
This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.
This antibody is directed against the C fragment of Tetanus toxin derived from Clostridium tetani. A BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with Clostridium tetani. Cross-reactivity with TTFC from other sources has not been determined.
Target Information
Tetanus toxin C-fragment (TTc) is a non-toxic 52 kDa polypeptide generated by papain cleavage of tetanus toxin, corresponding to the C-terminal 451 amino acids.
Tetanus is caused by a neurotoxin produced by the anaerobic bacterium Clostridium tetani, commonly found in soil, feces, and on objects such as rusty metal. Puncture wounds are a common cause of infection.
The toxin acts on presynaptic membranes of both central and peripheral nervous systems to block neurotransmitter release. In its toxic form, tetanus neurotoxin is a 150 kDa protein consisting of a light chain and a heavy chain.
- Light chain: enzymatic portion responsible for toxic effects
- Heavy chain: binds to neuron and aids delivery of light chain
A single disulfide bond links the two chains.
