Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene are associated with various tumors, including:

Chromosomal rearrangements often lead to fusion genes such as NPM-ALK, which are oncogenic.
ALK is a receptor tyrosine kinase with transmembrane and extracellular domains, showing high sequence similarity to LTK.
It plays a key role in neuronal development and signaling in the nervous system.
