Target Information
STAT1 (Signal Transducers and Activators of Transcription 1) is a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. It can be activated by interferon-α, interferon-γ, EGF, PDGF, and IL-6, regulating genes involved in cell growth, apoptosis, immune responses, and lipid metabolism.
STAT1 plays an important role in mediating cell viability in response to diverse stimuli and pathogens. Located on chromosome 2, STAT1 is activated via phosphorylation by JAK kinases and translocates to the nucleus to regulate gene transcription.
Among the seven STAT types, STAT1, STAT3, STAT5a, and STAT5b have broad activation profiles. STAT1 responds to various ligands including IFN family (IFN-α, IFN-β, IFN-γ, IL-10), gp130 family (IL-6, IL-11, LIF, CNTF, G-CSF), and receptor tyrosine kinases (EGF, PDGF, CSF-1). Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described.
