Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a novel member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally at the site of synthesis. LIPG plays a role in modulating lipoprotein metabolism, with overexpression reducing HDL cholesterol levels and deficiency increasing them in animal models. It exhibits substantial phospholipase activity and is involved in lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology. As a member of the TG lipase family, LIPG possesses a characteristic lid region providing substrate specificity. It acts as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes high-density lipoproteins, emulsifies triglycerides, aids in digestion of dietary fats, and binds to heparin.
