Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally to modulate lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency increases HDL levels in animal models. LIPG possesses phospholipase activity and plays roles in lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology. It is a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes high-density lipoproteins, emulsifies triglycerides, and is essential for efficient digestion of dietary fats. LIPG can also bind to heparin and is characterized by a lid region that provides substrate specificity typical of the TG lipase family.
