Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally to modulate lipoprotein metabolism.
Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency elevates HDL levels. LIPG exhibits strong phospholipase activity and plays roles in lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology.
As a member of the TG lipase family, it possesses a characteristic lid region conferring substrate specificity. LIPG acts as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes HDL, emulsifies triglycerides, aids in dietary fat digestion, and binds heparin.
