Human ST6GAL2 (84620)
The gene ST6GAL2 (ST6 β-galactosamide α-2,6-sialyltransferase 2) belongs to the ST6Gal family that also includes ST6Gal I. It is mainly expressed in embryonic and adult brain and also found in small intestine and colon. The encoded protein consists of 529 amino acids and shows 48.9% sequence similarity with ST6Gal I. The ST6GAL2 gene is located on human chromosome 2q11.2–q12.1, comprising eight exons spanning 85 kb. The protein has a type II transmembrane topology, with a short N-terminal cytoplasmic tail, transmembrane domain, stem region, and catalytic domain containing conserved sialylmotifs.
