Product Specific Information

  • IHC (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  • For formalin-fixed tissues: Heat tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

Neuron specific enolase (NSE, also known as ENO1, ENO2, ENO3 or enolase α, β, γ) is an enzyme involved in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis, catalyzing the interconversion of 2-phosphoglycerate and phosphoenolpyruvate.
NSE is highly stable in biological fluids and is released into extracellular spaces and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) upon neuronal injury.
The γ-subunit (ENO2) is primarily expressed in neurons and neuroendocrine cells. Co-expression with chromogranin A is common in neuroendocrine neoplasms.
Antibodies against NSE are used to identify neuronal cell bodies, developing neuronal lineages, and neuroendocrine cells.
Clinically, NSE serves as a biomarker of neuronal injury and is elevated in conditions such as stroke, hypoxic brain damage, status epilepticus, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and herpetic encephalitis, as well as in certain tumors like neuroblastoma and small cell lung cancer.
