This antibody is specific for cat IL-2 protein. A BLAST analysis suggests:

• 100% homology with cat IL-2
• 90% homology with Northern elephant seal and gray seal IL-2
  Cross-reactivity with IL-2 from other species has not been determined.

Target Information

Interleukin 2 (IL-2) is an immunomodulatory cytokine essential for:

• Proliferation of activated T cells
• Differentiation of B cells, NK cells, monocytes, and macrophages

IL-2 signals through the IL-2 receptor (IL-2R), a heterotrimeric complex sharing its gamma chain with IL-4 and IL-7.
In mature thymocytes, IL-2 gene expression is monoallelic, representing a unique regulatory mechanism.
Disruption of IL-2-like genes in mice leads to ulcerative colitis-like disease, indicating its critical role in immune response regulation.
