Product Specific Information

Antibody detects endogenous levels of Acetyl-p53 only when acetylated at Lys319.

Target Information

The tumor suppressor protein p53 is a sequence-specific transcription factor activated by cellular stress. It mediates cell cycle arrest or apoptosis in response to DNA damage or nutrient deprivation. p53 regulates genes such as p21waf1 involved in G1 or G2/M arrest. Structurally, p53 includes an N-terminal transactivation domain, a central DNA-binding domain, an oligomerisation domain, and a C-terminal regulatory domain. Phosphorylation at Ser15 is critical for activation and stabilization. p53 acts as an anticancer agent by blocking proliferation of damaged cells. Alterations in TP53 are associated with tumor formation, aging, oxidative stress, and learning deficits. Mutations in p53 can lead to loss of tumor suppressor activity and malignancy. Germline mutations are linked to cancer-prone syndromes such as Li-Fraumeni.
