MA3-027-A488 detects calnexin from human and mouse tissues.
The antigen used is Focus human hepatoma cell lysate.
Target Information
Calnexin, also known as IP90, p88, and p90, is an approximately 90 kDa integral membrane protein of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).
It acts as a molecular chaperone involved in proper folding and assembly of polypeptides.
Calnexin associates with MHC class I heavy chains, partial complexes of T cell receptor and B cell membrane immunoglobulin, but not with completed receptor complexes.
It retains incompletely folded proteins in the ER.
Soluble ER resident proteins contain the KDEL sequence for retention, while integral membrane proteins like calnexin rely on positively charged cytosolic residues for ER localization.
Calnexin consists of:
- ER luminal domain: 461 amino acids
- Transmembrane segment: 22 amino acids
- Cytoplasmic tail: 89 amino acids
