Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with soluble forms of CD14 found in serum and in the urine of some nephrotic patients.
Target Information
CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein constitutively expressed on the surface of mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It functions as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide (LPS) receptor and is released into serum in both secreted and enzymatically cleaved forms. CD14 binds LPS in a reaction catalyzed by lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), an acute phase serum protein. Soluble CD14 (sCD14) can discriminate structural differences between LPS molecules and is important for neutralizing serum lipopolysaccharides. CD14 also binds apoptotic cells and influences allergic, inflammatory, and infectious processes. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same isoform. CD14 dysfunction is associated with conditions such as Mycobacterium chelonae infection and Croup.
