Cytokeratin 19은 중간 필라멘트 단백질의 하위군에 속하며, 인간 상피 조직에서 최소 20가지 이상의 다양한 폴리펩타이드로 구성된 생화학적 다양성을 보입니다.
Cytokeratin은 40–68 kDa의 분자량과 4.9–7.8의 등전점을 가지며, 인간에서는 1–20번까지 번호가 매겨집니다.
각 상피 조직은 고유한 Cytokeratin 발현 패턴을 가지며, 이는 상피의 종류뿐 아니라 분화 정도와도 관련이 있습니다.
Cytokeratin 서브타입 발현 패턴은 다양한 상피성 악성종양의 감별 진단에 활용됩니다.
특히 Cytokeratin 19는 간세포에서는 발현되지 않으므로, 간 전이암의 식별에 유용합니다.
