Target Information

Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein involved in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome.
The UBA52 gene encodes a fusion protein composed of ubiquitin (N-terminus) and ribosomal protein S27a (C-terminus).
Upon expression, the precursor is processed to generate free ubiquitin and ribosomal protein S27a.
Ribosomal protein S27a is part of the 40S ribosomal subunit and contains C4-type zinc finger domains localized in the cytoplasm.
Pseudogenes of this gene exist in the genome.
Similar fusion proteins include ribosomal proteins L40 and S30, which are synthesized with ubiquitin or ubiquitin-like proteins.
