Target Information
The FCAR gene encodes a receptor for the Fc region of IgA and belongs to the immunoglobulin gene superfamily. This transmembrane glycoprotein is expressed on myeloid lineage cells such as neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, and eosinophils. It mediates immune responses to pathogens by interacting with IgA-opsonized targets and triggering defense processes including:
- Phagocytosis
- Antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity
- Release of inflammatory mediators
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
