Target Information
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are known to bind to DNA, causing damage that can contribute to tumor initiation and progression. PAHs are released into the environment through incomplete combustion of organic materials, such as smoking or grilled foods. Human exposure occurs via occupational, environmental, dietary, and medicinal sources. Benzo[a]pyrene is a representative PAH. Antibodies to benzo[a]pyrenediol-epoxide modified DNA (BPDE-DNA) are useful for detecting PAH-DNA adducts, which are considered carcinogenic.
