Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
APOBEC (apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme, catalytic) proteins inhibit retroviruses by deaminating cytosine residues of viral RNA and DNA. The APOBEC3 gene family, located on chromosome 22, likely arose from gene duplication events. APOBEC3G and APOBEC3F deaminate deoxycytosine to deoxyuracil in the minus strand of HIV-1 DNA, leading to G to A hypermutation in the plus strand. These enzymes contribute to innate antiviral defense and viral sequence variation. The HIV-1 Vif protein counteracts APOBEC3G and APOBEC3F by reducing their translation and promoting degradation via the 26S proteasome. Interestingly, mouse APOBEC3 proteins resist HIV-1 Vif, functioning as potent inhibitors of wild-type HIV-1 replication, while human APOBEC3G and APOBEC3F inhibit only Vif-deficient HIV-1. Modulating APOBEC3 activity or blocking Vif interaction may provide therapeutic potential.
