Product Specific Information
The eBioH35-17.2 monoclonal antibody reacts with the mouse CD8 beta molecule. The CD8 beta chain associates with the CD8 alpha chain to form the CD8 alpha/beta heterodimer expressed on thymocytes and peripheral cytotoxic alpha beta TCR T cells. CD8 binds to MHC class I and plays a role in T cell development and activation of mature T cells.

Target Information
The CD8B antigen is a cell surface glycoprotein found on most cytotoxic T lymphocytes that mediates efficient cell-cell interactions within the immune system. Acting as a coreceptor, CD8 and the T-cell receptor recognize antigens presented by APCs in the context of class I MHC molecules. The functional coreceptor can be a homodimer (two alpha chains) or a heterodimer (one alpha and one beta chain). Both chains share homology with immunoglobulin variable light chains. This gene encodes CD8 beta chain isoforms, with multiple alternatively spliced variants. A pseudogene is also located on chromosome 2.
