- 86% identical to rat, and 85% identical to mouse; <50% identity with ATF5
- 1 µg/mL of MA5-45649 detects ATF4 in 20 µg of rat brain lysate by colorimetric immunoblot using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as secondary antibody

Target Information
This gene encodes a transcription factor originally identified as a mammalian DNA-binding protein that binds the tax-responsive enhancer element in the LTR of HTLV-1. It is also known as cAMP-response element binding protein 2 (CREB-2).
The encoded protein belongs to a family of DNA-binding proteins that includes AP-1, CREBs, and CREB-like proteins, sharing a leucine zipper region for protein-protein interactions and a basic DNA-binding domain.
Two alternative transcripts encode the same protein. Two pseudogenes are located on the X chromosome at q28 within a large inverted duplication region.
