Antibody detects endogenous levels of MLCK only when phosphorylated at Tyr464.

Target Information

MYLK (MLCK) is a serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates myosin regulatory light chains to assist in the production of contractile activity (myosin-actin interaction).
MLCK is responsible for smooth muscle contraction via phosphorylation of a specific serine in the N-terminus of myosin light chains (MLC), facilitating myosin interaction with actin filaments.
It plays a central role in vascular permeability and tissue edema formation. In the nervous system, MLCK controls astrocytic process growth initiation and participates in neurotransmitter release at sympathetic synapses.
MLCK acts as a key participant in signaling pathways leading to fibroblast apoptosis. Smooth muscle and non-muscle isozymes are expressed in many tissues, with non-muscle isoform 2 being the dominant splice variant.
The Telokin isoform binds calmodulin and is found in various tissues. MLCK likely undergoes down-regulation via phosphorylation. The protein contains one fibronectin type III domain and nine immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains.
