Target Information

CD44 is a 100 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on human leukocytes, brain white matter, and various epithelial cells. It functions as a receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA) and plays key roles in cell-cell interactions, adhesion, and migration.
CD44 is involved in lymphocyte activation, recirculation, and homing, and its expression may be upregulated in certain carcinomas, potentially related to metastatic potential.
Multiple isoforms exist due to complex alternative splicing, contributing to structural and functional diversity.
Diseases associated with CD44 dysfunction include superficial keratitis and lichen sclerosus, and it may also be linked to tumor metastasis formation.
