Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a growing peroxidase family involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prx proteins are classified into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx subgroups. Prx VI belongs to the 1-Cys Prx subgroup, while the other five 2-Cys Prx isotypes exhibit thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity utilizing thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH as a reducing system. Mammalian Prxs are 20–30 kDa in size and vary in subcellular localization: Prx I, II, and VI are found in the cytosol; Prx III in mitochondria; Prx IV in the ER and secretory pathways; and Prx V is distributed in peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol.
