Target Information
Catalase is a homotetrameric heme-containing enzyme located in the matrix of all peroxisomes. It catalyzes the dismutation of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Human catalase has the C-terminal sequence (-KANL) for peroxisome targeting. The monomer molecular weight is approximately 61.3 kDa. Catalase is involved in inflammation, mutagenesis, apoptosis prevention, and tumor progression. Deficiency of catalase results in the genetic disorder acatalasemia (Takahara’s disease).
