Nestin antibody is directed against human Nestin protein. BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with Nestin protein from human and macaque (100% homology). Based on sequence homology, partial reactivity may occur with Nestin homologues from rabbit (94%), mouse (shown above), rat and hamster (88%), and bovine and dog (82%). Reactivity against other sources is not known.

Target Information

Nestin is a Class VI intermediate filament abundantly expressed in developing CNS and embryonic neuroepithelial stem cells. It serves as a marker for stem/progenitor cells, glioma cells, and tumor endothelial cells. Nestin is also a superior angiogenic marker for evaluating neovascularity in tumors. Highly specific antibodies to human Nestin assist in characterizing progenitor cell differentiation, enhancing therapeutic potential of neural stem/progenitor cells for CNS disease or injury, and identifying neuroepithelial tumor cells. Nestin expression has been observed in pancreatic hematopoietic stem cells and is considered a novel angiogenesis marker in proliferating endothelial cells of colorectal cancer tissue.
