Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD86 (B7-2), a 70 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin supergene family, expressed on professional antigen-presenting cells such as dendritic cells, macrophages, or activated B lymphocytes.

Target Information

CD86 is one of two ligands (the other CD80) for CTLA4 and CD28. It acts as a costimulatory molecule in eliciting T-cell help during antigen presentation. Insufficient co-stimulation involving CD86/CD80 can induce tolerance. CD86 is a type I membrane protein of the immunoglobulin superfamily, expressed by antigen-presenting cells, and serves as a ligand for CD28 and CTLA4 on T cells. Binding to CD28 provides activation signals, while binding to CTLA4 negatively regulates T-cell activation. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants. Diseases associated with CD86 dysfunction include gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
