This MAXL8DS monoclonal antibody recognizes mouse Axl, a member of the TAM family of tyrosine kinase receptors that includes MerTK and Tyro3. Within the hematopoietic compartment, Axl expression is highest on dendritic cells and macrophages, and can be upregulated by TLR ligand stimulation.

Target Information

AXL is a receptor tyrosine kinase associated with chronic myelogenous leukemia, colon cancer, and melanoma. It transduces extracellular signals via growth factors such as GAS6 and is involved in cell proliferation and apoptotic cell clearance.
Mice lacking TAM receptors exhibit degenerative and autoimmune phenotypes due to impaired apoptotic cell removal. Axl also serves as a marker for Siglec 6⁺/Axl⁺ dendritic cells and may act as an entry receptor for filoviruses. Expression can be induced by TLR ligands (e.g., LPS, poly I:C), and soluble Axl levels may indicate inflammation or cancer.
