Target Information

Fibronectin is a disulfide-bonded dimer with a molecular weight range of 230–250 kDa. In the extracellular matrix of connective tissues and vessels, fibronectin exists as an insoluble, cross-linked protein forming high molecular mass polymers. It is abundant during embryonic development and tissue remodeling, and also found as a soluble plasma protein.

Fibronectin consists of repeating modules forming interaction domains with itself, other matrix components (e.g., collagen, heparin), and cell receptors (e.g., integrins). It plays a key role in cell adhesion and migration, including embryogenesis, wound healing, blood coagulation, host defense, and metastasis.

Fibronectin expression increases notably in non-small cell lung carcinoma, enhancing tumorigenicity and resistance to apoptosis induced by chemotherapeutic agents. The FN1 gene undergoes alternative splicing, generating up to 20 transcript variants, though not all full-length forms have been characterized.
