Target Information
Fibronectin is a disulfide-bonded dimer with a molecular weight range of 230–250 kDa. In the extracellular matrix of connective tissues and vessels, fibronectin exists as an insoluble, cross-linked protein forming high molecular mass polymers. It is abundant during embryonic development and tissue remodeling and also found as a soluble plasma protein.
Fibronectin consists of repeating modules forming domains that interact with fibronectin itself, other matrix components (e.g., collagen, heparin), and cell surface receptors such as integrins. It plays key roles in cell adhesion, migration, wound healing, blood coagulation, and metastasis. Elevated fibronectin expression has been associated with non-small cell lung carcinoma, where it enhances tumorigenicity and resistance to apoptosis induced by chemotherapeutic agents.
The fibronectin gene undergoes alternative splicing, potentially generating up to 20 transcript variants, though the full-length nature of some variants remains undetermined.
