Target Information
TRPM8 is a receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in the detection of sensations such as coolness, activated by temperatures below 25°C. It responds to icilin, eucalyptol, menthol, and changes in intracellular pH. TRPM8 is permeable to monovalent cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺) and divalent Ca²⁺.
Expression is mostly restricted to prostate epithelial cells, with moderate levels in normal prostate tissue and elevated levels in prostate cancer. TRPM8 mRNA is also found in certain nonprostatic tumors (breast, colon, lung, skin), but rarely in corresponding normal tissues.
