Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha and a beta chain. The alpha V subunit undergoes post-translational cleavage to yield disulfide-linked heavy and light chains, which combine with multiple beta chains (β1, β3, β5, β6, β8) to form various integrins.
Among these, the αVβ3 integrin (Vitronectin receptor, VNR) is well-studied for its role in cell adhesion and signal transduction. Integrin β3, found along with αIIb in platelets, participates in cell adhesion and surface-mediated signaling.
