Target Information
Tight junctions are specialized regions of cell-cell contact abundant in epithelial sheets. They form barrier and fence functions that regulate paracellular permeability and maintain cell polarity.
Claudin-1 and Claudin-2 are key structural components of tight junction strands, connecting to the actin cytoskeleton through ZO-1.
Claudin-2 functions as a cation-selective paracellular channel and is primarily expressed in liver and kidney, with minor expression in the brain.
