Target Information

Connexin 40 (Cx40) is a member of the connexin family of gap junction proteins expressed in the pancreas, kidney, skeletal muscle, liver, placenta, and heart. It is highly expressed in vascular endothelial cells and the mammalian heart, particularly in the atrial myocardium and the His-Purkinje conduction system.
Other connexins expressed in the heart include Cx37 (endocardium), Cx43 (atrial and ventricular myocardium), and Cx45 (throughout the heart). Cx40 and Cx43 often co-localize in cardiovascular cells and form heterotypic gap junction channels.
