Target Information
Claudin-8 is a member of the claudin family of integral membrane proteins responsible for forming tight junction strands. Claudins connect with the actin cytoskeleton via ZO-1 and play roles in paracellular barrier functions. Claudin-8 is expressed in several distal nephron segments, the inner ear, and bladder epithelium, suggesting its role as a paracellular cation barrier protein.
