Target Information

Ribosomes are the organelles responsible for protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits include 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The S6 Ribosomal Protein, encoded by this gene, is part of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S6E family. It serves as a major substrate for various protein kinases, with phosphorylation at five C-terminal serine residues (including Ser235/236). This modification is regulated by growth factors, mitogens, and other stimuli, and may play a role in controlling cell growth and proliferation through selective mRNA translation. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene exist throughout the genome.
