Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 astrocyte와 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 neural stem cell에서도 높은 발현을 보입니다.
GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 마커로 매우 유용하며, 다양한 뇌종양(astrocytic cell 유래)에서도 GFAP가 강하게 발현됩니다.
이 단백질은 lens epithelium, 간의 Kupffer cell, 일부 침샘 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다.
GFAP는 발달 과정 중 astrocyte를 다른 glial cell과 구분하는 마커로 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 astrocyte 관련 질환)를 유발할 수 있으며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 isoform이 생성됩니다.
