Beta-actin is one of six actin isoforms identified. Actin molecules across species and tissues show high similarity in immunological and physical properties, making it challenging to generate potent antisera. Monoclonal antibodies to beta-actin serve as specific tools for studying intracellular β-actin distribution and cytoskeletal dynamics.
Target Information
Beta actin is a non-muscle cytoskeletal protein expressed in all human cell types and involved in cell motility, structure, and integrity. It coexists with gamma actin in most cell types as part of the cytoskeleton. Polymerization of globular actin (G-actin) forms filamentous actin (F-actin) with a two-stranded helical structure.
Due to its ubiquitous expression, beta-actin is commonly used as a loading control in protein detection assays such as Western blotting. Antibodies to beta-actin provide specific and reliable tools for studying cytoskeletal organization and dynamics.
