Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD7, a 40 kD type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on peripheral blood T lymphocytes, NK-cells, hematopoietic progenitors, and weakly on monocytes. It is also expressed on acute lymphocytic leukemia cells.

Target Information

CD7 (gp40, Leu9) is a 40 kDa member of the immunoglobulin gene superfamily. The N-terminal amino acids (1–107) are highly homologous to Ig kappa-L chains, while the C-terminal region is proline-rich and may form a stalk projecting the Ig domain. CD7 is expressed on immature and mature T-lymphocytes, T cell leukemia, NK cells, a subset of normal B cells, and malignant B cells.
Cross-linking CD7 modulates T cell and NK cell activity by influencing calcium fluxes, adhesion molecule expression, cytokine secretion, and proliferation. CD7 associates with phosphoinositol 3-kinase, and ligation induces production of D-3 phosphoinositides and tyrosine phosphorylation.
Expression of CD7 serves as an important marker in leukemia diagnostics.
