Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of Estrogen Receptor alpha only when phosphorylated at Serine 106.

Target Information

Estrogen Receptors (ER) belong to the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors. The estrogen receptor acts as a ligand-activated transcription factor; upon estrogen binding, it undergoes a conformational change enabling dimerization and binding to estrogen response elements (ERE) in DNA. This binding regulates gene transcription through coactivator or corepressor recruitment.

There are two forms of the estrogen receptor, alpha (ESR1) and beta (ESR2), encoded by separate genes. Alternative RNA splicing generates at least four isoforms of ER-alpha (Isoform 1: 66 kDa, Isoform 2: 53 kDa, Isoform 3: 47 kDa, Isoform 4: 35 kDa). ERs are widely expressed in various tissues, essential for sexual development and reproduction, and also function in bone and other tissues. They are implicated in pathological processes including breast cancer, endometrial cancer, and osteoporosis.
