Target Information
KIR3DL1 belongs to the Killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) family, which are transmembrane glycoproteins expressed by natural killer (NK) cells and subsets of T cells. KIR genes are polymorphic and located on chromosome 19q13.4 within the leukocyte receptor complex (LRC).
KIR proteins are classified by the number of extracellular immunoglobulin domains (2D or 3D) and by the length of their cytoplasmic domain (L or S).
- Long (L) cytoplasmic domains contain ITIM motifs that transduce inhibitory signals.
- Short (S) cytoplasmic domains lack ITIM motifs and instead associate with TYRO protein tyrosine kinase binding protein to transmit activating signals.
Ligands for several KIR proteins are subsets of HLA class I molecules. KIRs play a crucial role in regulating immune responses.
