Target Information
PCNA (Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen) is essential for DNA replication and is involved in DNA excision and mismatch repair pathways. It binds to CDK inhibitor p21, endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT).
PCNA serves as a marker for proliferating cells and is useful for assessing tumor proliferation status. It is expressed in the nucleus, functions as a homotrimer, and acts as a cofactor for DNA polymerase delta to enhance leading-strand synthesis during replication.
Upon DNA damage, PCNA is ubiquitinated and participates in the RAD6-dependent DNA repair pathway. Two transcript variants encode the same protein, and pseudogenes are found on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
