Target Information
Casein kinase I (CKI) and casein kinase II (CKII) are serine/threonine protein kinase families present in all eukaryotes. CKI family members, including CKI alpha, gamma, epsilon, and delta, are involved in cytoplasmic and nuclear processes such as DNA replication and repair.
CKII typically exists as a tetrameric complex (α₂β₂ or αα′β₂) where the α catalytic subunit is activated by the β regulatory subunit, which undergoes autophosphorylation. CKII activity is high in proliferating and differentiating cells and is known to phosphorylate over 100 substrates, including nuclear oncoproteins, transcription factors, and enzymes related to DNA metabolism.
