Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속합니다. GFAP는 중추신경계의 성상세포 및 일부 astroglia, 말초 신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포에서도 높은 발현을 보입니다. GFAP 항체는 성상세포 표지자로 널리 활용되며, 다양한 뇌종양에서 GFAP의 높은 발현이 관찰됩니다. GFAP는 수정체 상피, 간의 쿠퍼세포, 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 다른 교세포와 성상세포를 구별하는 마커로 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease를 유발하며, 이는 중추신경계의 드문 성상세포 질환입니다. GFAP 유전자는 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 전사 변이체를 생성합니다.
