Target Information
GPR68 (OGR1) is a proton-sensing receptor involved in pH homeostasis. It acts as an osteoblastic pH sensor regulating cellular response to acidosis in bone. GPR68 mediates its function through G proteins that stimulate inositol phosphate (IP) production or Ca²⁺ mobilization. The receptor is nearly inactive at pH 7.8 but fully activated at pH 6.8. It also serves as a tumor suppressor in prostate cancer. Mutations in the gene are associated with amelogenesis imperfecta, hypomaturation type 2A6.
