Target Information
Growth hormone secretagogue receptor 1a (GHSR) is a G-protein coupled receptor involved in energy homeostasis and body weight regulation. Two transcript variants are expressed in several tissues and conserved across species.
- Transcript 1a: Encodes the functional receptor for Ghrelin, defining a neuroendocrine pathway for growth hormone release.
- Transcript 1b: Retains an intron and does not function as a Ghrelin receptor but may attenuate isoform 1a activity.
Mutations in GHSR can lead to isolated partial growth hormone deficiency.
