Product Specific Information
The PA1-73020 antibody reacts with Salmonella species and cross-reacts with related Enterobacteriaceae.
It has been successfully used in immunofluorescence applications. Acetone fixation of the antigen source is recommended prior to staining.
The antibody was raised against a mixture of S. enteriditis, S. typhimurium & S. heidelburg (O & H antigens).
Target Information
The genus Salmonella belongs to the family Enterobacteriaceae. It consists of Gram-negative, facultative, motile bacilli.
Salmonella species possess three major surface antigens:
- H antigen (flagellar) – phase 1 and 2
- O antigen (somatic) – part of the LPS moiety
- Vi antigen (capsular) – referred to as K in other Enterobacteriaceae
They also possess the LPS endotoxin typical of Gram-negative bacteria, composed of an O polysaccharide (O antigen), an R core, and the inner Lipid A. Endotoxins can induce fever and activate complement, kinin, and clotting factors.
