Target Information

Saraf encodes a protein that negatively regulates store-operated Ca(2+) entry (SOCE), protecting cells from Ca(2+) overfilling. Upon endoplasmic reticulum Ca(2+) refilling, Saraf promotes slow inactivation of STIM1/STIM2-dependent SOCE activity by facilitating STIM de-oligomerization, efficiently turning off ORAI channels when Ca(2+) levels are appropriate, preventing cellular Ca(2+) overload.
