Target Information
Band 3 protein is the most abundant integral protein of human erythrocyte membranes and functions as the major anion transporter of erythrocytes. It is a 90–100 kDa protein with microheterogeneity mainly due to carbohydrate structural variations.
The C-terminal portion spans the membrane multiple times and mediates anion transport, while the N-terminal portion interacts with cytoskeletal and cytoplasmic proteins such as ankyrin.
